Airtel has announced that it is flushing out its 3G technology in the country by shutting down its 3G network in Kolkata. Initially, they used a 900MHz band spectrum for 3G networks. Now, to increase the coverage or expand they have upgraded of 900MHz 4G LTE technology for 4G capability. They are able to deliver high speeds on 4G. The L900 technology in the 900MHz spectrum will challenge Airtel’s existing 4G services in the 2300MHz and 1800MHz bands. Airtel already existing 4G services in some places.
And it has given a promise of providing 2G services in Kolkata to serve the customers on feature phones. Airtel already shut down its 3G network services in Haryana. And therefore it is continuing 2G network in Haryana for feature phone customers. Coming to telecom circle wise, Kolkata is the first telecom circle compared to the Haryana telecom circle.
with this new 4G LTE technology, Airtel customers or subscribers are able to get improved speeds of 4G availability in homes, offices, buildings and in some terrain places. Bharti Airtel CTO, Randeep Sekhon said that “This is in line with our stated strategy of focusing on serving quality customers with the best in the class service experience. Going forward, we plan to re-farm all of our 3G spectra across India and deploy it for 4G in a phased manner. Also, it complements the smartphone ecosystem, which has now gravitated overwhelmingly towards 4G only devices”.
Airtel has informed already to all customers for up-gradation of 4G. The customers who are going to upgrade their handsets/SIMs will continue to get access to voice services.
